Alpine Circuit

The aim of this circuit was to provide a twisty challenge for the rally cars using some of the model railway enthusiasts techniques for building the scenery whilst packing the maximum length of track into the available space. The road isn't modelled on anywhere specifically but if you've seen the film "Italian Job" you'll know the effect I'm after.

Mounted on a 18mm thick chipboard base  x feet by x feet hinged to the garage wall by the long edge with a 2" x 1" leg hinged to support, it folds away when not in use. The aim was to make it totally self contained so it could be moved elsewhere without having to sort out the power supply. I also decided to use two separate supplies to ensure that the cars are not affected by the opposition having a spill. The controllers plug into the same 3 pin sockets used on the other track.

The track is made from 8mm MDF with braid contacts using the same method as the previous circuit so I've not repeated the construction method here in as much detail.

Each of the following pages contains a number of photographs showing the various stages of build. The download times over a 28.8 connection are in brackets.
