St John Margate parish records transcript vol. 5 has an entry:-
Burial, 14 Dec 1794 Mary (P357), wife of Stephen FASSUM (i.e. Stephen senior)
No other Stephen FA(SHA)M has a bapt. registered in St Lawrence, St Peter or St
Mary parishes - further adjacent parishes yet to be checked.
However, the Wills of Elizabeth FASHAM (proved in Oct 1854) and Stephen FASHAM
(proved Feb 1829) both refer to their son Stephen. In the 1841 and 1851
censuses Stephen (husband of Sophia) is living next door to this Elizabeth
FASHAM.
On this basis, it is a reasonable assumption that Stephen's parents were
Stephen and Elizabeth and not Stephen and Mary.
1823 Will of Stephen Fasham: mentions wife Elizabeth, sons John, Stephen,
William, James and George and granddaughter Hannah Elizabeth Busbridge daughter
of late daughter Sarah late wife of Nathaniel Busbridge. Will proved February
1829.
1841 census East North Down Thanet (HO 107/468/6 folio 52): Stephen Fasham aged
50 (the 1841 rounded ages to nearest 5), Ag Lab. with wife Sophia (50) and
daughter Mary (15).
1848 Will: Elizabeth Fasham (widow) of East Northdown, St Johns, Isle of Thanet
Kent made trustees her sons Stephen Fasham and James Fasham. Elizabeth
bequeathed estate in equal parts to her sons John Fasham, Stephen Fasham,
William Fasham (alias Fassam), James Fasham, George Fasham and granddaughter
Hannah Elizabeth Busbridge daughter of her late daughter Sarah late the wife of
the late Nathaniel Busbridge of St Peters Thanet. The Will was proved 28
October 1854 by the oath of surviving executor James Fasham.
1851 census (HO107/1639) North Down, Thanet, Kent: Stephen Fasham aged 60, Ag
Labr., born Margate, Kent. Sophia, wife, aged 62, born Hartlip, Kent. Living
adjacent to brother George & mother Elizabeth.
1854 death cert: 30 Aug, North Down, aged 63 years 9 months, labourer, of
diarhorea 14 day not certified, reported by Mary Johnson present at death of
Bath Cottages, Margate (his dau.). NB Cholera epidemic at the time.
