Mr. Angry

Capability Jowell

More wibble from me:

And don’t tell me this website looks ugly! It’s meant to! I’m angry!

I'm very pleased that Tessa Jowell has been cleared of "breaking ministerial guidelines".

Now she can resign with honour. Had she resigned the day before yesterday it would have looked like an admission of wrongdoing.

But she needs to resign. Not because she has "broken ministerial guidelines" or because she has taken bribes, or because her husband has taken bribes, or because they don't talk about money in bed, or because they don't share a bed at all, or because they are so rich they don't even notice half a million quid, or because she has done anything wrong at all, but because there is a conflict of interest between being a government minister and having a spouse who has such close business dealings with a foreign politician. Even if it was someone whose policies Labour agreed with, and not Berlusconi, a man who the vast majority of Party members find repulsive and dangerous.

If she had been struck by lightning and paralysed so that she could no longer see, hear, or speak, it would have been very sad, it probably wouldn't have been her fault, but she would have been unable to carry on as a minister. And this is very sad, it might not be her fault, but she has to do the decent thing and go.
