JavaScript Site Search

David Dorn has discovered a neat utility that generates a "search engine" dedicated to your Web site.

One of the most useful facilities you can have on a website that is devoted to providing information is the ability for a surfer to search your site. You can categorise your site to the nth degree, but if a visitor wants to find everything you've ever written on, say, "Design", then a search engine of some sort is the only way to go.

As luck would have it, a small program to build a search engine for your site has come to my notice. It's Shareware, which means you get to try it for 30 days, and then, if you like it, you register (it currently costs $40 - about £26). In this case, it opens up a world of possibilities, since in its unregistered form, it will only allow you to index six page for searching.

The name of the program? Search Maker Pro, is what it's called, and it's really quite impressive. To show you how it works, I've indexed our Design section and put a search page up in there for you to have a play with.

I've also made Search Maker Pro available for download here.

Click here to see the results of what it's done for our Web building Design section.

Another site using Search Maker Pro is located here
