Holiday Fun!
Once a year if he’s lucky, David Dorn jets off
to warmer climes to recharge his batteries – completely free of PCs
and technology in general…
… or so he says! Actually, that should be “So I
say”, because, inevitably, given the kind of place She Who Must be
Obeyed and I go to, technology is never that far away. This year (as
in so many other years) we’ll be heading off to Lanzarote, and
island known not only for its airport now (thanks to ITV’s series on
Tuesday nights) but also the amazing plethora of shops selling
technological doo-dahs of every description.
On the island, you can buy digital cameras, digital
video cameras, MP3 players and all manner of other goodies – even
portable PCs and TFT monitors. Avoiding technology, then, is not
going to be easy.
Rest assured, though, that this particular writer
and editor will be doing his level best to spend his time enjoying
the food and drink, the sun and sea, the walking and boating and
anything else that has nothing to do with PCs and digital trickery.
It’s about the only way I’ll be able to spend the
other eleven and a half months of the year immersed in the Practical
PC ethos of keeping abreast of the times and bringing you the best
guides, reviews and web-authoring articles that are available.
As usual, though, many of the regular readers will
be off to foreign shores at the same sort of time. To everyone, I’d
like to wish you a happy holiday, and no unfortunate incidents.
While I’m away, the Chat room will still be open, manned by the
ever-resourceful Peter Hall (ShineyPete) and regular chatters
Imagedktr, Gazwozere and Scaniawheelnuts, amongst others.
Take it from me, these guys are knowledgeable, and
well capable of helping out anyone with a problem, as we do every
Monday night at 9pm.
Updates
Even though we’re away, though, Practical PC won’t
have closed down. We’ve arranged barrowloads of stuff for you to
read, and there are more downloads available than you can shake a
stick at – plenty of new articles to read, and loads of interesting
software to play around with.
If you haven’t already found the links,
click here to get to see the new
updates and here to
get to the downloads sections.
That’s it! I’ll be sunning myself, possibly, while
you’re reading this – be sure to tune in on the 19th of
August, when I’ll be back, refreshed and ready for another year of
scintillating weekday updates – with some new features you won’t
want to miss!
