I make both figurative and abstract windows. I consider it important to be designer and maker, and I like to paint on glass in both cases. This is an integral part of stained glass, it controls the light and restricts the vision to the space enclosed within the walls, thereby uniting the windows with the architecture. The architectural setting and scale of the window must also be considered. Above all the artist is designing with light and colour. I only use hand-made glass. About 98 per cent of my commissions are for churches, and I think these should have a biblical theme or theological concept. I like to put a lot of thought into this aspect of designing, yet aim to keep the whole approach fresh.
