Light independent reaction
Light-independent reaction This involves the 'fixing' of carbon dioxide and the synthesis of carbohydrates. It uses the ATP and reduced NADP produced in the light-dependent reaction. The fixing of carbon dioxide refers the conversion of inorganic carbon dioxide into organic carbon compounds. It takes place in the stroma of the chloroplasts. Try the following web sites; http://esg-www.mit.edu:8001/esgbio/ps/light.html For a more detailed treatment try; http://www.tayloru.edu/upland/departments/biology/authorware/photosynthesis/photosynthesis.html OR http://www.sciencenet.org.uk/database/Biology/Lists/photosynthtable.html The main component of the light independent reaction is often called the Calvin Cycle.
